OUR STORY

We are proud to have over 66 years of heritage in our business, dating back four generations, and have long been a cornerstone of Manchester's pre-loved fashion scene.

Our History

Established in 1957, Elite Pre-Loved, originally called The White Elephant and best known as The Elite Dress Agency, has become a leading name in vintage and pre-loved designer fashion in England.

The White Elephant, opened by Beth Makin in Sale, Manchester, in 1957, marks the beginning of the business's long history.

In 1964, the business rebranded as The Elite Dress Agency and relocated to Altrincham. Not long after, it expanded with a second store and warehouse on Smithy Lane, just behind Kendals in Manchester City Centre.

In the 1980s, Richard Makin, son of founder Beth Makin, opened the 35 King Street West store, located directly opposite the warehouse, with the support of his daughters, Trudy and Nicola.

Nicola Makin (Topham) went on to take ownership and manage the business, overseeing stores in Altrincham, Bolton, and Manchester.

Fourth Generation Leadership

Today, the legacy lives on with Jack Topham, the fourth generation of the family. Alongside his business partner and co-owner, Fay Broad, Jack brings fresh ideas and a modern approach, all while staying true to the rich heritage of Elite Pre-Loved. Nicola Topham remains actively involved as a Director/Owner, continuing to shape the future of the business.

A Bright Future

As Elite Pre-Loved continues to celebrate its rich history, the future looks incredibly promising. The business remains dedicated to preserving its legacy while embracing modern trends, including a strong online presence that connects with a wider audience. With a continued focus on quality, sustainability, and exceptional customer service, Elite Pre-Loved remains a trusted destination for those seeking unique, authentic fashion.
In conclusion, Elite Pre-Loved is more than just a business—it's a family legacy. From its humble beginnings to its position as a leader in the pre-loved fashion world, Elite Pre-Loved’s journey is a testament to the timeless appeal of vintage and designer fashion.
